Some popular birth controls may cause serious blood clots

On Behalf of | Mar 15, 2018 | Uncategorized |

Many Houston women use prescription medication for birth control. There are many options for prescription birth control. Many of these options are safe but there have been instances where certain birth controls have been an unsafe medication for some women.

Birth control containing the synthetic progestin drospirenone, like Yaz and Ocella have been found to cause serious blood clots in some women who have taken them. Studies have found an increased risk of a type of serious blood clot called a venous thromboembolism (or VTE) in women who have taken a birth control containing drospirenone. These blood clots form in a leg, break off, and may travel to the lungs where it stops blood flow causing a potentially deadly situation. These types of birth control contain two types of hormones, drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol and are relatively new to the market.

Women who have suffered severe side effects from Yaz or other birth control may find consulting with a legal professional to be helpful. An attorney can review medical records, symptoms, and medications and listen to the victim’s story to build a case against the drug manufacturer. Doing so could be the first step towards getting the compensation victims Texans need to pay for medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.

When drug companies fail to disclose information about their drug that can cause serious harm they should be held accountable. Birth control such as Yaz and Ocella have injured thousands of women. It is important to hold these drug manufacturers responsible for their negligence.
