Medical devices that don't communicate can cause medical errors

When a Houston resident has the need for a medical device, they typically have a serious medical condition. Serious medical conditions require a lot of communication between their medical providers, prescription information and medical devices. When medical device manufacturers don't make their products compatible with other systems, it can lead to serious injury.

A recent survey of nurses has revealed that many medical errors occur because many medical devices do not connect to electronic health records, making the possibility of a medical mistake much more likely. Almost half the nurses surveyed said they had personally witnessed a medical mistake because of the lack of compatibility between devices.

The problem, according to practitioners, is that many medically monitoring devices that don't communicate with each other. For instance, nurses spend a majority of their time with medical devices in a patient's room. These devices do not communicate with other devices, requiring nurses to manually input information again and again. That process leads to mistakes. But if these medical devices communicated between themselves, the majority of these errors would be reduced or eliminated.

Nor is that the only scenario at play. Hospitals are full of medical devices, many of which that do not speak to each other.

If a patient believes they have been harmed because of a medical mistake they may want to speak with an attorney skilled in medical devices. An attorney can review medical records and get answers to what went wrong. They have the experience necessary to hold medical device manufacturers responsible for their negligence. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.
