Like many people, you may take supplements to boost your energy or improve your health. You expect these supplements you take to be safe. After all, they are supposed to make you healthier, not endanger you.
The company Vital Proteins recently voluntarily recalled its collagen peptide supplements due to potential contamination by a foreign material. Additionally, pieces of a broken blue lid could be found in some of the canisters.
Supplement was sold at Costco and online
The recall began on April 21, 2023. The Food and Drug Administration says that approximately 60,000 24-ounce canisters of the supplement were recalled.
The supplement was sold at Costco stores throughout the country. Although Texas is not one of the states it was sold in, it was also available online, which means Texas residents could potentially still be affected.
This is a class II recall. This means consuming the product could cause medical issues, although they might be reversible.
Broken lid could harm your digestive system
Regarding the broken blue lid, the FDA’s policy guidelines state that hard or sharp foreign objects can cause lacerations or perforations to your digestive system.
This means consuming the supplement could potentially harm your throat, teeth, gums, tongue, stomach or intestines. The elderly, infants or people who have recently had surgery are more likely to suffer a traumatic injury from the broken lid.
If you have one of the affected canisters, you should stop taking the supplement. If you feel you have been harmed by consuming the supplements, see a doctor and determine if you have been injured.
Know your options if you are affected
Learning that you have consumed a dangerous drug can be extremely frightening. Drug manufacturers and suppliers should be held accountable for actions such as these that put consumers at risk.
Although this was a voluntary recall by the company, you can still pursue legal action if you experience harm. You could receive compensation for your medical bills, pain and suffering and other costs.
