A drug-coated stent may be dangerous

On Behalf of | Mar 15, 2018 | Uncategorized |

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the U.S. Heart disease affects most every family in the Houston area and drug and medical device manufacturers scramble to produce medications and devices that can help patients. One such medical device used for heart disease is a drug-coated stent.

A drug-coated stent, otherwise known as a drug-eluting stent, is a device that is inserted angioplasty to keep the arteries open. The drug has a coating that slowly released medication to keep the blockage from reoccurring. There are some risks associated with these stents though, some of which may cause a serious injury. These risks include blood clots, infections, stent migration, allergic reaction to the drug in the stent, bleeding, heart attack, chest pain or a tearing of the blood vessel.

For those who suffer from blocked arteries there are some other options available for treatment. These include diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, medication, bare-metal stents and by-pass surgery. Many Houston residents will need to make decisions regarding their heart health at some point in their lives. If they believe they have suffered unnecessary injury from a medical device they may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in drug and medical devices. Compensation may be available for unexpected medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

Heart disease kills thousands of Houston residents each year. It is important for people to make sure they are eating healthy, exercising regularly and not engaging in unhealthy lifestyle choices. Drug and medical device manufacturers create products that can help patients with heart disease but occasionally these products have unexpected risks that cause more harm and serious injuries.
