Antibiotic has been linked to dangerous drug side effects

For decades, antibiotics have saved millions of lives. Illnesses that were at one time deadly can now be cured with antibiotics. But some antibiotics have dangerous drug side effects that can cause a serious injury. These antibiotics need to be taken with caution and drug manufacturers should be held accountable for any resulting injuries.

Some people in the Houston area may have heard of an antibiotic called Levaquin; it is an antibiotic that has been linked to dangerous side effects. Levaquin is a type of antibiotic called a fluoroquinolone, which is used to treat ailments such as urinary tract infections, sinusitis, and strep throat. Levaquin has been linked to a type of nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy. The nerve damage can come on quickly for patients and some of the damage can be permanent. Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy include numbness, weakness, sensitivity to cold and hot, burning and pain.

In 2013 the FDA required Levaquin to change their label and warn patients of the risk of nerve damage.
